“Our materials are very affordable, and people with low or moderate incomes receive a 50% discount off the regular price,” said Matthew St. Onge, executive director of the Building Materials Resource Center. “Route 93 is close by at Exit 18, so North Shore customers can get here easily.” The BMRC is located at 100 Terrace Street in Boston’s Roxbury Crossing, near Roxbury Community College.

Among the items available recently were a 14-piece kitchen cabinet set for $1,800/$900, a fireplace mantel for $150/$75, and paneled doors for as little as $40/$20. Featured items can be viewed by visiting www.bostonbmrc.org.

To receive the discount, each customer must provide a copy of his or her 2005 federal tax return or SSI benefits letter, and pay a $10 membership fee. The BMRC also offers workshops that teach do-it-yourself skills, such as finish carpentry, window repair, and introduction to plumbing.

The Building Materials Resource Center is open weekdays from 9:00-4:30, Thursday until 6:00, and Saturday 9:00-3:00. For more information, call 617-442-8917 or visit www.bostonbmrc.org.
